Keep Calm and Grill On!!
Bank Holiday weekends and barbecues go together like burgers and buns. However, if the weather isn’t great and you end up huddled indoors whilst the “Chef” braves it outside, follow our carpet care tips to keep your home looking great.
Barbecue Sauce
If you spill or drop barbecue sauce on your carpet or upholstery, don’t wait to clean it. Tend to the spot immediately before it can cause permanent damage.
- Gently scoop as much up of the sauce as possible using a spoon.
- Grab your can of Chem-Dry Spot Remover and follow the instructions on the can. No Spot Remover? Try using soda water instead.
- If you don’t have either of those, blot stain using a clean, white cloth dipped in warm water with a VERY small amount of washing up liquid — a few drops to a cup of water should do. Move to a clean part of the cloth as the barbecue sauce transfers to it.
- Blot repeatedly with a clean dry towel to remove as much moisture as possible.
- If the stain persists, DON’T use ammonia or any bleaching agent, even mild ones like 3% hydrogen peroxide. Often, that remedy can result in customers bleaching or yellowing their carpet or upholstery while the stain remains unaffected. Instead, have A&G Chem-Dry remove the stain sooner rather than later.
Mucky Footprints
Attempt to prevent them by investing in some extra mats to place by the doorway out into the garden and ask guests to remove wet or grassy footwear. If the great outdoors does get tracked indoors, leave marks to dry and then thoroughly vacuum. If your carpets have had a protective treatment applied, mucky marks will be MUCH easier to remove.
Grease
Salad dressings, coleslaw and burgers can all leave greasy, oily residue on your carpets or furniture if spilt, or transferred from little fingers. For more advice on how to tackle these particularly tricky marks, have a look at our previous article “Grease Is The Word”.
